FiveThirtyEight is looking for a spring 2017 intern to help with the site’s podcasts and videos. The responsibilities for the position, which is paid, will consist of conceiving and researching topics for audio and video interviews; editing and producing; and helping package shows for online and social media distribution. The intern will work across all our verticals — sports, politics, science, culture and more — so we’re seeking applicants who have a wide range of interests and skills.
We’re looking for someone with basic video and audio editing skills, some experience in a newsroom or radio station, a keen interest in data-driven journalism, and a willingness to work hard. This isn’t an internship where we give you one repeatable task. We are a small team, and the intern plays a vital role in both generating and executing ideas of all kinds. We currently produce three podcasts and various kinds of short video projects, and we have big plans to add more.
The internship, which is paid, will run from approximately Jan. 19 to March 17, and the intern will be expected to work from our office in New York City. Current students at U.S. colleges or universities are eligible, as are recent graduates who were enrolled in at least one course in the semester before the internship.
The intern may work up to 40 hours per week (with some flexibility in schedule as needed).
