FiveThirtyEight Is Hiring Summer Interns

FiveThirtyEight is looking for summer interns to fill the roles of data reporter and visual journalist. Here are the details on the paid internships:

The data reporter will collect political polls and enter them into our database, as well as do research for staff writers. Aspiring journalists will also have the chance to pitch stories. We’re seeking candidates skilled at data mining, data entry and fact-checking. We’d prefer candidates who have experience using Python, Ruby and R, and working as a writer and reporter.

The visual journalist will help develop internal tools, interactive graphics, web applications and predictive systems. We’re looking for someone with a significant background in computer science. Knowledge of Python and Ruby, and experience with database systems, are desirable.

For both internships, we prefer candidates who have worked in college and perhaps professional news organizations.

Our internship program runs June 8 through Aug. 14. You must be available for the duration of the internship, which is based in New York. You must be enrolled in a U.S. college or university and taking at least one class at the time of application.

For more details, read each job description linked above. Applicants must apply online. We will not look at applications emailed to us. The positions are filled on a rolling basis.

Micah Cohen is FiveThirtyEight’s former managing editor.
