Breaking in for a second — the Associated Press has just called another one of last week’s primaries, declaring that the second slot in the November general election for Washington secretary of state will go to Pierce County Auditor Julie Anderson. An independent, Anderson could actually win over some voters that a Republican couldn’t have, giving her a nonzero chance of defeating appointed Democratic incumbent Steve Hobbs. Amazingly, despite Washington’s blue hue, Democrats haven’t won the secretary of state’s office in an election since 1960!
