What Went Down In Elections In Minnesota, Wisconsin, Vermont And Connecticut

In some ways, I think it doesn’t matter whether more Trump-endorsed or Pence-endorsed gubernatorial candidates win — the party has moved to the right in really significant ways. Take the Republican primary for governor in Wisconsin. Both Kleefisch and Michels have come out in favor of the state’s current ban, which was written in 1849 and bans abortion in all cases except where the pregnant woman’s life is endangered. That law is SO far outside the American mainstream. And it’s not like one candidate is trying to moderate on the issue. But of course, Trump went far outside the mainstream on abortion in 2016 when he said that women should be punished for having abortions (although he had to walk it back) and now we’re in a totally different world when it comes to abortion rights.
