Kaine might do well to emulate Clinton’s debate demeanor tonight, and Trump would certainly do well to emulate Pence’s demeanor next week. Kaine comes across as antsy, and he might even be a victim of the camera positioning: He appears to be looking away from Pence when he’s talking, rather than engaging in a conversation with his opponent. Clinton shined when she smiled calmly at Trump while her opponent was flying off the handle. Kaine is the more excitable aggressor tonight. Pence’s skills as a former radio host may be paying off in this setting, and his tone is more personal and reminiscent of a fireside chat. At times, Kaine’s interjections make it seem like he’s trying too hard to score points.
