One of the biggest problems Republicans have faced as the election has gone on is using Obama as a bogeyman. When Trump started his campaign, Obama’s net approval rating was about -5 percentage points. Today, it’s +5 percentage points. When Pence goes after Obama, he’s actually going after someone who is fairly popular. Clinton and Trump are much less liked.
