I think Republicans, by asking Williams about Pence’s conversations with Ukrainian leaders, were trying to argue that as Pence did not raise the idea of investigations, any request from the president or his team was not a demand. But if the president or his team had legitimate reasons to ask Ukraine to look into the Bidens again and had formally decided to make this a priority, why wouldn’t Pence also bring it up when talking to Ukraine?

MaryAlice, I wonder if one thing that Republicans are subtly trying to do is lay the groundwork for Pence to emerge from this scandal unscathed in case things really go south for Trump.
