What Went Down On Day 3 Of The Trump Impeachment Hearings

In Williams’s closed-door testimony, she talked about how Trump told Pence not to attend Zelensky’s inauguration, after having told him to go only a month before. Williams said she never learned more about the reversal, but Pence’s attendance at the inauguration would have been a big deal for Zelensky. So it’s worth watching whether and how Democrats press her on this.

“I was concerned by the call. What I heard was inappropriate,” says Vindman in his opening statement. Adding that he worried that bipartisan support for Ukraine was jeopardized by the call.

I doubt the Republicans will ever push to remove Trump, but Williams’s testimony suggests Pence was not too involved in Trump’s Ukraine moves, and there has been little reporting that puts Pence in the midst of this scandal. So in that sense, Pence could replace Trump and perhaps limit the damage from the scandal for the GOP.
