Yeah, Clare, I agree that Yovanovitch is sympathetic, and it doesn’t make Trump look good to have been vindictive toward her. But making Trump seem distasteful isn’t the same as convincing people he should be impeached. There are already tons of examples of Trump mistreating women (and allegations of worse) — I think that’s baked into opinions of him at this point.

And here we have Goldman, the Democratic counsel, addressing the idea of serving at the pleasure of the president. Asking if she’d ever heard of an ambassador being removed for stories that the State Department itself knew was false.

Here’s a question that has to do with this hearing, how it will be digested by the public and what the electoral effects going forward might be: If white women are the new big segment of swing voters, does this play pretty well with them? A woman unfairly fired from her job? Just spit balling, but it seems like Yovanovich is pretty sympathetic as a narrator. Of course, the GOP line will be, you serve at the president’s pleasure.
