But making institutions political when they should not be political was part of what brought down Nixon, who used the FBI and the IRS to target political opponents. This isn’t exactly the same thing, but the narrative of making the State Dept. political and poisonous seems like a pretty straightforward and damaging one.

According to the call memo, he said, “The former ambassador from the United States, the woman, was bad news.” Zelensky replied, “It was great that you were the first one who told me that she was a bad ambassador because I agree with you 100%.”
