What Went Down During Marie Yovanovitch’s Testimony

Kent and Taylor were kind of providing details. She is bringing a fairly full-throated attack on Trump and Pompeo. Jim Jordan will, I’m sure, return the favor. This is not a just-the-facts presentation. She is making a full case connecting her treatment to the broader Trump foreign policy.

I realize that media and politics Twitter spent the last 36 hours arguing about the importance of “theater” in these hearings, and I think I come down on the side that these hearings are designed partly to generate public response. In that light, I’m glad that Perry brought up gender. I’ll be curious how this plays out in the discussions of witness credibility. Many sympathetic discussions of Taylor’s credibility were highly gendered, describing him as a “father figure,” for example. And I wonder about depictions of the brief exchange between Schiff and Stefanik earlier, too, when he wouldn’t recognize her.

“The policy process is visibly unraveling.” Yikes! “The State Department is being hollowed out from within.”
