What Went Down On Day 1 Of The Impeachment Hearings
In response to Julia, some Democratic 2020 campaigns have told us that they did not think that they could mount a moral argument against the president in the general election if sitting members of Congress didn’t do something.
I wonder if Democrats have hurt themselves by focusing so much on Ukraine foreign policy and the effect of withholding aid and support to the ally. Yes, those are witnesses they had, but are they leaving basic questions on the table about what the president stood to gain or why the U.S. government normally does not want foreign governments investigating U.S. citizens?
Hmm, Julia, I think it’s pretty clear at this point that impeachment hasn’t harmed Democrats politically, at least so far. Since the Ukraine news broke, impeachment has been more popular than it is unpopular. And Democrats still lead the generic congressional ballot by about 6 points.
