I think you’re seeing already a switch in Democratic strategy: a move away from the “quid pro quo” language. Reportedly, Democrats think people don’t get all that Latin stuff, and will focus more on “bribery,” “extortion,” “abuse of power,” etc.

What I’m watching for today won’t actually be something we can see on the broadcast: the number of Americans who actually tune in to watch. The hearings are being aired live on all three major networks, PBS, plus of course cable news, so the opportunity is there to capture a wide audience — or at least wider than watches your average congressional hearing! According to a CBS/YouGov poll, 20 percent of Americans say they plan to watch most of the hearings live, and an additional 21 percent say they plan to watch part of them live. And for comparison’s sake when the eventual number comes out, the Kavanaugh confirmation hearing got 20.4 million viewers, while the Michael Cohen hearing got 15.9 million.
