Whew that was a tremendous pass, but Kittle looks like he pushed off.
I am so confused by this time management.
So not exactly a coherent strategy here.
And take a timeout! LOL
Well, but now they pass with him.
Yeah, Josh, you’re right: Shanahan refusing to put the game in Garoppolo’s hands could end up being the story of this postseason, win or lose.
Are the commercials more confusing this year than normal? Or am I just forgetting all the weird commercials of the past?
Seems a bit cowardly to me to rest on a 10-10 tie, but the 49ers must figure that since they get the ball back to start the second half it’s not worth the risk of another Garoppolo interception.
That… checks out?
If you keep running the ball, you’re basically asking the Chiefs to call a timeout there.
Niners happy with 10-10.
That was a terrible no-timeout by Shanahan. Lost 40 seconds.
Sara, I don’t like saving timeouts for offense because you can conserve time when you have the ball. I like using them on defense.
Ban on sad commercials, please.
It will be interesting to see if the Niners unleash Garoppolo with 59 seconds left in the half, or play it conservative.
Or are they saving the timeouts, Mike?
Great job by the 49ers defense keeping KC from getting a score before the half. Stopping the speedy Hardman on that reverse play on 2nd down was big, as was bottling up Williams on the screen to force a punt and get the ball back.
Why no timeout? No faith in the offense.
Not a great batch of play calls on that series for the Chiefs.
Two minute warning!
One thing I’ve noticed from the Chiefs’ receivers is that they aren’t catching the ball and getting downhill after the catch. Lots of dancing, and they are coming up short of the first down marker more often than not. I’d want that to stop if I were Andy Reid.
Niners doing a good job stopping Hill from taking the top of the defense and beating them deep.
For the record, that 49ers score brought their win probability up to 53.3, per Pro-Football-Reference’s model. Of course, you don’t need an advanced model to know that coming up with that stop and answering with a touchdown was a huge few minutes for San Francisco’s chances to win.
Great move from Damien Williams on the first pass of the drive from Mahomes. I love the “oops, I’m stopping” move.
Hardman looked like he was hurt after that return.
I look forward to his grandson, Mike Juszczyk, playing for the Patriots in 2070.
The Niners turned that drive around in a hurry with a few long runs, and finished with a play action pass to the fullback. As Neil pointed out, that’s pretty much how everyone thought they would attack the Chiefs. Big drive.
Juszczyk is the Yastrzemski of football.
With 5:05 left in the half, we’ve got ourselves a 10-10 tie.
Hahaha, Neil.
That was a really good throw by Jimmy G. This is a brand new game.
Everyone live blogging this game, at a minimum.
How many people just looked up how to spell Juszczyk?
Let’s see… Garoppolo play action, rolling out, hits a fullback for a TD…. who has 49ers Bingo?
The fullback gets some love!
Still not a good pass by Garoppolo, behind Samuel. He’s not looking sharp, to say the least.
That was a massive hole for Coleman there.
I jinxed it for the Chiefs.
I love Raheem Mostert’s career stats table. So many stints with minimal action, now he is a playoff hero.
The rushing game seems to be working now, for whatever reason.
A 2nd-and-long run says one of two things (or maybe both): Shanahan really believes in his running game or really does not believe in Garoppolo.
Rushing Wide Receivers matter.
(Awwwww, it was a pass?)
I love that it counted as a pass. Pad Jimmy G.’s stats!
Deebo Samuel — generational rushing talent.
Whatever running game design worked so well against the Packers is not working now against the Chiefs.
Pitbull with a cameo in the Jennifer Lopez commercial probably means he’ll be in her set, yes?
Assuming a touchback on that recent kickoff, the difference between a field goal and a touchdown on that drive was the difference between the 49ers having a 30.6 percent win probability, and a 21.7 percent win probability. They’d rather have a 1 in 3 shot, I’m sure.
That easy field goal for Dustin Colquitt extended the Chiefs’ lead to 10-3, with 9:32 left in the first half.
A Chiefs TD there would not have been fatal but it would have been near-fatal. So, they survived. Now Garoppolo has to do something positive for the first time all game.
