What Went Down In Super Bowl LIV
Oprah and The Rock are “mates”! Who knew?
Everyone’s rightly focused on the Chiefs’ offense against the 49ers’ defense, but I’m fascinated by the chess match between Kyle Shanahan and the Chiefs’ defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. Spags has been here before — he engineered the New York Giants’ 2007 upset of the 18-0 New England Patriots–but he can be a gambler with aggressive playcalls, and Shanahan’s had two weeks to study his blitzes.
I think the balance of the Niners is really being underplayed in the lead-in to this game. The conventional take is that San Francisco has to keep the Chiefs “in the 20s” to win the game. But the Niners scored more points than the Chiefs. They can win a lower-scoring or higher-scoring game. I think for the Chiefs to win this game, it has go over the Vegas over/under of 53.
