A big question right now is what this means for Bloomberg. Biden clearly has more of a claim to being the best moderate alternative to Bernie after actually, y’know, winning a state. And Biden has already moved back ahead of Bloomberg in our national polling average.

So if this does turn into a Sanders versus Biden race, here’s an interesting tidbit that Nathaniel just dug out of the preliminary South Carolina exit polls:

Among Sanders voters tonight, 49 percent have an unfavorable view of Biden and 45 percent a favorable one.

Among Biden voters, 51 percent have an unfavorable view of Sanders and 40 percent a favorable one.

In completely non-results-related news, today marked the first statewide election in South Carolina with new voting equipment, purchased last year. The machines were already used in a special election for a state house seat, as well as some municipal elections. I haven’t seen reports of any problems, and they’re more secure than the old machines (which were completely digital with no paper records), but that doesn’t mean there weren’t still concerns raised about security.
