What Went Down On Night Two Of The Second Democratic Debate
As your Castro correspondent for the night, I am here to say that Castro is having another good night. He is beginning to emerge as the candidate on racial-justice issues writ large (immigration, criminal justice).
I think the Booker-Biden exchange there (and Castro’s addition to it) hit a better balance than the health care discussion with regard to combining policy specifics with the big picture of how it affects people and what the underlying ideas are. But I also wonder how much it matters other than highlighting the disparity between Biden’s record and the current Democratic Party. Otherwise, voters might compare different health care plans — but will they compare different criminal justice reform plans? Not clear that the salience is high enough
Every candidate except Castro has mentioned Trump at least one time tonight.
