What Went Down On Night Two Of The Second Democratic Debate
Like yesterday, I worry the emphasis on figuring out how different the plans are will leave people unsure what broad outlines of the plans are. Both Harris and Biden are basically proposing Medicare-for-those-who want, and the differences between them won’t matter because neither bill will pass.
Our first look at words spoken so far:
Who’s holding the floor so far?
Number of words spoken by candidates participating in night two of the second Democratic debate, as of 8:33 p.m. Wednesday
| Candidate | Words Spoken | |
|---|---|---|
| Kamala Harris | 680 | |
| Joe Biden | 427 | |
| Bill de Blasio | 333 | |
| Kirsten Gillibrand | 314 | |
| Andrew Yang | 226 | |
| Julián Castro | 210 | |
| Cory Booker | 180 | |
| Jay Inslee | 172 | |
| Tulsi Gabbard | 168 | |
| Michael Bennet | 167 |
(Can we get into critiquing the moderators): I am not a fan of these “how do you feel about X calling their thing Y?” Does Gillibrand’s opinion of Harris’ plan affect access or insurance? The answer is better than the question here as far as focusing on substance.
