What Went Down On Night One Of The Second Democratic Debate
Is it just me or are O’Rourke and Harris’s plans relatively similar?
Ninety percent of Democrats think “Medicare for All that want it,” or a system that allows Americans to choose between a national health insurance program or their own private health insurance, is a good idea, according to a recent NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll. However, only 64 percent of Democrats think Medicare for All is a good idea if they’re told that it would replace private health insurance.
As your Buttigieg correspondent for the night, I can’t tell if he was effectively navigating his way through traffic with that response or if seems like the third wheel. I do think, in the long run, that the public option is a pretty easy position to defend and that might be to the benefit of candidates like Buttigieg and Biden as these topics come up over and over again.
