There was a whole segment during Night 1 of the convention about all the promises Trump had kept — cutting taxes, replacing NAFTA, appointing conservative judges, etc. It was one of the more convincing segments of the RNC, IMO.

The “kept his word” line about Trump is obviously very debatable, but it’s a more plausible defense than a lot of what we’ve heard this week, and I wouldn’t be surprised to hear more of it tomorrow night.

Maybe Pence’s speech will remedy this as he gets going, but tonight has felt very light on second-term policy. That’s consistent with the argument by Matt Grossman and David Hopkins: that the Democratic Party is more focused on concrete policies, while the Republicans are more interested in symbolic assertions of ideology.
