What Went Down On Night 3 Of The RNC
My instinct is that the way to win voters is less to target them as women and more to target the big issues — the economy, COVID-19, policing– on everyone’s minds.
Micah, we know that support for Trump among women has been eroding since 2016, when a majority of white women voted for Trump, but only a small minority of women of color voted for him. I think they’re trying to send a message to white women voters that the GOP represents them, cares about families, and that there’s still a place for them in this party.
Micah, I think these pro-woman messages are targeted at a specific group of white, suburban women who might be wavering about a second vote for Trump. As Meredith and I wrote last week, a majority of white women voted for Trump in 2016, but recent polls have shown that they’re slightly more likely to be supporting Biden this year. The question, of course, is whether positioning Trump as a champion of women will make a difference to these voters.
