OK, we’re in prime time now, and Lara Trump is leading off with another pitch to women. As Amelia has written, there’s not really a unified “women’s vote”. So what do people make of the pitch Republicans are making? It seems mostly geared at portraying Trump as a champion of women, but is that the right message to win over women? Or is it the right message to win over a certain group of women?

Oh, Geoffrey, absolutely. Fort McHenry is an easy turn off I-95 in Baltimore — the display there is remarkable. After a movie on the battle in the Baltimore Harbor, shades open to the playing of the national anthem with the fort appearing in the backdrop. Moves me to tears.

In her speech, Lara Trump touted low unemployment for women under Trump’s presidency. That is, of course, ignoring the recession caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic, which — unlike most other recessions — has hit women harder than men.
