As Nathaniel mentioned, Stefanik became a bit of a star of the impeachment hearings last fall, when she emerged as one of Trump’s most enthusiastic defenders. It’s still amazing to me how little we’ve heard about that over the past two weeks. It’s just another reminder of how much the political landscape has shifted over the course of this year.

Speaking of young candidates and rising stars, Cawthorn is the Republican nominee for North Carolina’s 2nd district. He is just 25 years old and would be the youngest member of Congress if elected. He is one of just two candidates to beat a Trump-endorsed nominee in a primary this year (in a runoff this summer, he bested Lynda Bennett — who Trump endorsed — by a 32-point margin). Nathaniel and I wrote about Trump’s endorsements today for the site. Cawthorn also faces allegations of unwanted sexual behavior, which he has reponded to.

So far, I’ve heard a lot more about the threat of protestors than the threat of COVID-19. Curious to hear if that shifts with Madison Cawthorn or other speakers.
