“Schemily” started as a joke nickname to differentiate me from the other Emily S. in my high-school friend group. That was quickly shortened to “Schem,” which stuck.

Growing up, my parents gave me a nickname in Cantonese that translated to “stupid child,” and it stuck well into middle school. Aunts, uncles, any elder family member called me that. And now all of you are saying to yourself “omg all of Tony’s complexes suddenly make sense!”
