As Karen Pence speaks, it strikes me that Doug Emhoff, Kamala Harris’s husband, didn’t speak at the DNC.

I’m honestly not sure if McEnany’s appearance at the RNC is a Hatch Act violation. The website of the Office of the Special Counsel categorizes her as a “less restricted employee.” It says she is not allowed to “engage in political activity – i.e., activity directed at the success or failure of a political party, candidate for partisan political office, or partisan political group – while [she] is on duty.” But it also says she is allowed to “make campaign speeches for candidates in partisan elections.” This seems … inconsistent?

I agree, Nate. School choice is an issue that could theoretically win over some voters who wouldn’t traditionally give the GOP much of a chance. For example, studies show Black and Hispanic Democrats are more supportive of charter schools than white Democrats.
