I mean … “address” could mean a lot of things , including addressing the situation in opportunistic ways or in ways that people outside of Trump’s base might not like. But this convention has already felt a little disconnected from reality, with the lack of masks and social distancing and the infrequent mentions of COVID-19, and it might feel even more so tonight.

I don’t know, Sarah, I think Republicans have to find a way to address the latest police shooting and the hurricane, but mostly just so the media doesn’t hammer them for not addressing them. More fundamentally, is there any confusion about where Trump stands on issues of race and systemic racism? Could anything be said tonight that would change our understanding of where Trump and most of the GOP stand?
