What Went Down On Night 3 Of The RNC

Rabbi Aryeh Spero, who is now giving the opening prayer, is the author of a book titled “Push Back: Reclaiming the American Spirit.” He’s an Orthodox rabbi. It’s a good reminder that while Jews are one of the most solidly Democratic groups, there are Jewish Republicans, and they are much more likely to be religiously conservative.

I mean … “address” could mean a lot of things , including addressing the situation in opportunistic ways or in ways that people outside of Trump’s base might not like. But this convention has already felt a little disconnected from reality, with the lack of masks and social distancing and the infrequent mentions of COVID-19, and it might feel even more so tonight.

I don’t know, Sarah, I think Republicans have to find a way to address the latest police shooting and the hurricane, but mostly just so the media doesn’t hammer them for not addressing them. More fundamentally, is there any confusion about where Trump stands on issues of race and systemic racism? Could anything be said tonight that would change our understanding of where Trump and most of the GOP stand?
