What Went Down On Night 2 Of The RNC
There have been quite a few Black speakers featured at this convention. I would love to know how all of this is playing with Black voters, particularly different groups of Black voters. But usually polling has fairly small samples of Black voters to begin with, so you don’t get the sort of detail you’d like to drill into detailed questions like this.
Here’s Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron. He is going places. He’s a former Mitch McConnell aide, and I’d expect him to run for McConnell’s seat when he retires (in 2026?). From there, who knows?
Despite all the throwback law and order talk we’ve been hearing at this convention — and throughout the summer — Trump talking in a voiceover about the importance of prisoner reentry is a striking reminder of how much the Republican stance on incarceration has shifted over the past decade or so. (Even though the First Step Act didn’t go nearly as far as many prison reform advocates wanted.)
