What Went Down On Night 2 Of The RNC
Despite all the throwback law and order talk we’ve been hearing at this convention — and throughout the summer — Trump talking in a voiceover about the importance of prisoner reentry is a striking reminder of how much the Republican stance on incarceration has shifted over the past decade or so. (Even though the First Step Act didn’t go nearly as far as many prison reform advocates wanted.)
Trump has proven throughout the 2016 campaign and his time as president that repeating lies or half-truths often enough makes them “feel” true, which is often enough for people. It’s known as the illusory truth effect.
