What Went Down On Night 2 Of The RNC
It does seem like Trump has largely given control of the convention to his image makers, letting them try to repair some of his negative attributes in voters’ minds. That might bode well for him in the fall campaign. In 2016, they finally took control of his Twitter account for the final month of the campaign, getting some control of the message. But tonight sounds a little less like Fox News, which could mean it might not impress Trump.
If I had to guess, I’d guess that for everyday voters, the most resonant images associated with Trump and immigration will be the detentions of children at the border, even if they have declined in salience in this year of numerous disasters. But maybe I’m wrong.
There’s an expectation of some hyperbole at a convention, but Eric Trump just claimed Biden has “pledged” to take away the Second Amendment. That’s not true.
