What Went Down On Night 2 Of The RNC

Today Trump announced that he is nominating Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf, who is swearing in these new Americans, to be the permanent secretary of DHS. Earlier this month, a court ruled that Wolf’s initial appointment was illegal.

OK, so we’ve got this second reality TV-esque stunt (that is also a really important thing in these peoples’ lives): a naturalization ceremony with Trump present. This follows his pardon earlier. What a night.

Trump has been the most anti-immigation president in recent memory. He has been proud of this, talking proudly of his efforts to clamp down on illegal immigration and trying to wind down Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. So it’s very striking to see him have a naturalization ceremony and feature that as part of his political brand.
