I do think these interviews with voters are more moving than some of the round table groups Trump has been a part of? Maybe some of it has to do with the music, as Meredith pointed out, but this feels like another missed opportunity for Trump. Wouldn’t it have been more powerful if it was Trump having those conservations, not Pence?

Taking stock at where we’re at now, tonight seems to be really about playing up Trump’s character. Between the religious appeals, Tiffany Trump’s speech and Pence’s segment, this night really has been emphasizing Trump as a person. Much like the platform (or lack thereof), we probably won’t see much policy talk over the next few days.
