What Went Down On Night 2 Of The RNC

Pence once said, “I’m a conservative but I’m not mad about it.” He’s playing the (slightly corny?) politician in this video — he literally scruffs a kid’s head. For a bit more about him, here’s my 2017 piece that imagines what a President Pence would look like.

The background music in Pence’s video is soft and strikes a positive chord 🥁. He says “In American you can do anything, and you can be anything.” I realize that other speakers have talked about the American Dream, but the music adds quite a bit! There is some interesting political science research about music; music evokes emotions, and those emotions influence political behaviors.

As far as health care is concerned, the convention is focusing a lot on the 2018 Right to Try law and prescriptions drug prices. Prescription drug spending makes up only 10 percent of health care spending in the U.S. and “right to try” is not something that applies to many Americans. Trump had said he would have a comprehensive health care plan out this month, but it hasn’t been released yet. Americans generally trust Democrats more on health care and disapprove of Trump’s handling of the issue by double digits.
