Of course, the party was already leaning left, but Sanders as THE (male) figure of import on the leftest part of the spectrum in the Democratic ecosystem was always a bit tangled up with gender. Especially in the wake of Warren — a (female) figure of import on the leftest part of the spectrum — dropping out, a lot of people are going to be asking the question of why Sanders, not Warren, was seen as the big change figure.
