What Went Down In Michigan, Washington And Other Democratic Primaries
Yeah, Amelia, I think the age gap doesn’t get enough coverage. It’s been HUGE!
The generational divide between younger and older voters in the preliminary Missouri exit polls is stunning. Around three-quarters of voters ages 18-29 went for Sanders, and a similar share (77 percent) of voters over 65 went for Biden. The problem for Sanders is that 18- to 29-year-olds only made up 12 percent of the primary electorate in the state, while voters over the age of 65 were 35 percent of the electorate.
Decision Desk HQ has Biden up 72-27 in Missouri, a much bigger lead than exit polls implied. It’s only about 15,000 votes, though. Still, it seems clear that rural parts of the Midwest favor Biden, after mostly having favored Sanders in 2016.
