It’s a slightly eccentric area, Rakich, with a lot of Dutch-American heritage, conservative but also sort of #NeverTrump/anti-establishment (it elects Justin Amash to Congress) — pretty college-educated and well-off. I’m not sure it’s an easy place to generalize, but Sanders probably needs to win there by more than 5 points to win Michigan.
Nate, it’s interesting to me that Sanders won the Grand Rapids area so decisively in 2016. It’s a pretty conservative, religious area. As a native Michigander, can you shed any light on it? Is the Democratic vote there really progressive or something?
Warren has yet to endorse either Biden or Sanders, but ABC is reporting that more than 30 Warren campaign staffers have signed onto a letter that announces their support for Sanders.
