Sanders is currently leading the early vote in just one Illinois county: Champaign, which (as Kaleigh mentioned earlier) is home to the state’s largest university, the University of Illinois.

With 10 percent of the expected vote reporting in Illinois, Biden leads 57 percent to 37 percent. The margin he’s trying to “beat” is 26 points — that’s how much our forecast had him up, on average.

Cook County was more than half the vote in the Illinois Democratic primary in 2016, so if Sanders continues to run about even with Biden there, the statewide margin will eventually narrow meaningfully.
