What Went Down In The Arizona, Florida And Illinois Primaries
We mentioned earlier that Sanders’s worst county in Florida is Sumter County (between Tampa Bay and Orlando in central Florida). With much of the vote in from there, he’s winning just 9 percent. Well, Sumter is home to The Villages, a massive retirement community, which helps make it the oldest county in the country by median age (about 68 years old). So yeah, not a shocker that Sanders does worse there than anywhere else.
Another big race to watch in Chicago today is the Cook County state’s attorney’s race, where incumbent Kim Foxx is being challenged by several other candidates, including former assistant state’s attorney Bill Conway, whose candidacy was bankrolled by his billionaire father. Conway attacked Foxx for her handling of the attack allegedly staged by former “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett in Chicago last year. Foxx was elected as a “progressive prosecutor” and she has instituted a number of reforms, but her critics have tried to focus this year’s election on the Smollett case. We’ll see soon if it worked.
