The race is tightening in the Republican primary in North Carolina’s 13th. With 53 percent of the vote in, Hines isn’t running away with this — he has 31.7 percent of the vote, while Barbour has 28 percent. It doesn’t seem like Barbour was on many people’s radar to be so competitive against Hines. Most of the discussion was about Daughtry, who loaned her campaign over $2 million but is coming in well behind Hines and Barbour, with 17.2 percent of the vote. Barbour has been pitching himself as a grassroots conservative — and he certainly seems to have snuck up on national observers of this race, although of course quite a few votes are still outstanding.
