I’m covering Big Lie believers running tonight and got curious about Paul’s record. There was a time when Paul was the author of some of the most creative insults lobbed at Trump, but over the past few years he’s fully joined the Trump camp — even earning an endorsement from the former prez. Given Paul’s alignment, you might suspect he’s also in the Big Lie camp, but that’s not quite the case.
Paul was among those questioning the results of the 2020 election in the weeks after Biden’s win: In Dec. 2020, after the Electoral College vote that confirmed Biden’s victory, Paul said “the fraud happened. The election in many ways was stolen and the only way it’ll be fixed is by, in the future, reinforcing the laws.” However, when it came time to certify the election results, Paul did so for all states, unlike some of his fellow Republicans.
