Democrats are set to nominate, what I believe, are a record number of Black candidates for U.S. Senate. Raphael Warnock in Georgia, Cheri Beasley in North Carolina, Charles Booker in Kentucky, either Krystle Mathews or Angela Geter in South Carolina, and potentially Val Demings in Florida and Mandela Barnes in Wisconsin (he’s leading in the polls right now, but that’s a late primary).

On the other hand, Republicans are set to put forward a more white, more male slate of candidates in Senate races, as my colleague Nathan Gonzales wrote about for Roll Call.

That’s a good point, Sarah, and something that’ll be super interesting to monitor this fall, especially if Barnette ends up being the GOP nominee for Senate.

Ted Budd is currently delivering his victory speech for the North Carolina Republican Senate nomination. Early on in his speech, he thanks Trump for his support and mentions his daughter-in-law Lara Trump, who is herself a North Carolinian. As Nathaniel has written, it’s arguable that with the Club For Growth’s participation in the race, backing Budd might have actually done more for his success than any of the Trumps.
