Our colleagues at ABC News can now project that former Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley will win the Democratic nomination for Ohio governor. She is currently leading former Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley by an almost two-to-one margin — an impressive performance in a primary where no candidate seemed to have a clear advantage.

Whaley would be the first woman elected governor of Ohio, but she faces an uphill climb against popular Republican Gov. Mike DeWine in November, especially in a Republican-leaning national environment.
