This is of course when I ask what conservative even means. There are aspects of Trumpism that are distinctly unconservative: his economic protectionism, inattention to the debt/deficit and in the most extreme case a rejection of constitutional self-rule. I kind of think Republicans will continue to be more moderate on economic issues. I don’t think we are going to hear about social security privatization in the next three years. But I think the party will continue to be more Trumpy (if that’s conservative?) on immigration, for example. Is that more conservative or more moderate? Maybe our divides just don’t fit neatly on a Left-Right axis. 🙃
