ABC News reports that Democratic state Rep. Delia Ramirez will advance to the November election in Illinois 3rd Congressional District. Ramirez will face Republican Justin Burau, who ran unopposed, in November. In the previous congressional map, Illinois had just one majority Hispanic district — the 4th District — which is currently represented by Rep. Jesús García. The 2020 Census, however, showed the Hispanic population across Illinois grew by roughly 15 percent over the past decade, prompting advocates to push for another majority-minority district that would ideally lead to more Latino representation in Congress. As I said earlier, Ramirez will be favored to win in November thanks to the district’s redrawn boundaries. Under the newest congressional lines, the 3rd District has a partisan lean of D+39.
