As folks may know, Illinois Democrats gerrymandered pretty aggressively this cycle and could pick up a couple seats in the state as a result.

One of those is the 13th District, where there are contested primaries on both sides of the aisle tonight. On the Democratic side, things aren’t looking all that competitive. Nikki Budzinski, who is a former Biden staffer and was endorsed by lots of high profile Illinois Democrats, is leading progressive David Palmer 83 percent to 17 percent with 9 percent of the expected vote in. The Republican primary is looking more competitive. Former federal prosecutor Jesse Reising or nonprofit president Regan Deering are tied at 36 percent with 6 percent of the expected vote in. While this district leans Democratic by 7 points thanks to redistricting, it could be very competitive in a Republican-friendly environment. Expect to hear more about this district come fall.
