What We’re Watching In Utah Tonight
While incumbents are favored in all of Utah’s Republican primaries tonight, there are two races we’re watching in case things get interesting.
- For U.S. Senate, Trump-endorsed Sen. Mike Lee faces two challengers who believe he is too partisan, including one (former state Rep. Becky Edwards) who has forcefully defended the integrity of the 2020 election. Polling from last month indicates Lee should win by double digits, but his exact vote share will be a notable indicator of how many Utah Republicans aren’t in love with Lee, considering that his general-election opponent would not a Democrat, but rather Republican-turned-independent Evan McMullin.
- For the 1st District, polls also suggest that Rep. Blake Moore should be easily renominated, but he did vote in favor of a bipartisan Jan. 6 commission, and party activists aren’t happy with him: Retired intelligence officer Andrew Badger actually got more support than Moore at the pre-primary convention, 59 percent to 41 percent.
