As expected, ABC News projects Rep. Charlie Crist has defeated state Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried to win the Democratic primary for governor. He leads 60 percent to 36 percent with 84 percent of the expected vote reporting. Crist won the governorship as a Republican in 2006, lost a Senate race as an independent in 2010 and then lost the governor’s race in 2014 as a Democrat, and now he’ll give it another go as a Democrat in an uphill battle against Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.
