Earlier I mentioned that Democrats have nominated a record number of women in gubernatorial primaries this cycle (47 percent of their nominees), and they might add another tonight in Rhode Island, if Foulkes or Gorbea can get by McKee.
But its worth mentioning that Republicans have also broken records this cycle with female gubernatorial nominees. Granted, just 23 percent of their nominees are women, but that’s still up from 18 percent in 2018. And tonight, in Rhode Island Republicans nominated a woman, Ashley Kalus — although that race isn’t expected to be very competitive in November.
