According to the Center for American Women in Politics, thus far women are nearly half (47 percent) of Democrats’ nominees for governor this year. That’s record-breaking. And I think it could turn out to be pretty lucky for their party, if attention to the abortion issue stays high. Of course, electing that many women isn’t luck — lots of energy and money has been put into building up a candidate pool with qualified women, especially from groups like EMILY’s List. Tonight, Democratic women could add one more nominee if Foulkes or Gorbea end up defeating the incumbent, McKee, in the Rhode Island’s gubernatorial primary tonight. In this race, EMILY’s List backed Gorbea, who is currently in third, behind Foulkes and McKee.
