‘The Rock’ For President?
The concept of electability has become nearly ubiquitous in the Democratic primary. Even though, as Maggie Koerth wrote last week, we don’t know if someone is electable until they’re actually elected, many voters are still trying to suss out which candidate is best positioned to beat Trump. But what that means to each individual voter can vary wildly.
At a Buttigieg rally on Sunday, I talked with Kenneth Santos, 17, who was visiting New Hampshire from New York on a school trip. He and his classmates had been split into groups and assigned to canvass for different candidates. He was door-knocking for Buttigieg, but Kenneth said he was most excited about Sanders, even though he came from a conservative-leaning family.
I also asked Kenneth which person he thought had the best shot of beating Trump — even if they weren’t a politician. His answer? Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. And I have to say, his reasons were pretty compelling.
I’ll be live-blogging tonight from the Warren primary night party, which is in a sprawling building near the Manchester airport. Inside, it has a strong airplane hanger vibe, but the Warren folks have spruced it up — little hightop tables with flower arrangements, bottles of wine chilling in buckets. (Although the ice doesn’t feel all that necessary, given how cold it is in this room!) Whether the mood is jovial later, though, will depend a lot on whether Warren can avoid another third-place finish.
