This is a question I’ve waiting to ask on one of our primary live blogs for a long time, and given our discussion about Nevada being among the hardest seats for Democrats to defend in the Senate this year, tonight feels like as good a night as any to ask it. Here it is: Are Republicans on the verge of a huge majority in the Senate?

There was this piece from journalist Matt Yglesias’s Substack earlier this year that argued this could very well happen — not just in 2022 but in 2024, too. So I’m curious, what would it actually take for a situation like the one described in that article — Democrats losing four Senate seats — to happen? Is this a realistic argument or a doomsday scenario not rooted in much reality?
